Mahindra Roxor. If it was street legal it would be a lot more tempting. As an off-road only vehicle, it's just an expensive toy. Looks nice though.

Seems like a waste, just find a Jeep?

Some states you can drive those on county roads.
Doesn’t make sense for me, but people do spend crazy money on ATVs and UTVs (can never remember the difference) and I’d sure be tempted if I had the money to burn. Find a dead flatfender, move the grille and fenders over, and enjoy.

It’s basically a pre assembled kit car.
The only thing that makes it side by side( ish) is the roll cage and mirrors.

put a different grille in it, and nobody would look at it twice.
you might just buddy up with someone, and “share” registration...... they get one licens e plate, you get the other. just have to co-ordinate vehicle colors..........
not that i advocate title fraud, or registration monkey bu si ness, but where there is a will, there is a way.......

Based on what I’ve read on Jalopnik, it’s pretty similar to buying a brand new CJ.

I can certainly understand the appeal of buying something with the dimensions of an old Jeep, but without 40 years of wear and rust.

It might make sense in a more rural area, but not where I live.

I do remember the article, Jeeps are just so simple that you can get a tub and get anything. But if you don’t need it to go on the road I guess whateves. I’ve been to India and I am not so sure I want their machinery.

Is there a legal way to buy a potentially useless beat up old CJ and then just migrate as much as possible of a Roxor into/onto it? What portion of a vehicle must remain for it to be considered “that” vehicle?

The Roxor is practically an ideal farm runabout. Anyone with more than 4
acres of land could make excellent use of it.

That’s a fair point, although it still seems less practical than a truck.
I am not a farmer, nor do I own land. So to me, it would just be an expensive toy.

Good question. I do not know.

It is less practical than a new truck in many ways . It’s also significantly less expensive. A new Roxor starts at like $15k, and that’s with a turbodiesel engine and 4wd w/low range transfer case.
You can’t touch a brand new highway-legal, 4x4 truck for less than $25k. A new Wrangler is gonna be close to $30k. And they’re all going to weigh significantly more than a Roxor while being much more expensive to maintain, particularly if you offroad them like a UTV.

The Roxor is definitely an intriguing value proposition. But for me, it doesn’t make sense because I’d have to buy another vehicle and trailer just to tow the Roxor to the fun places. I don’t think my Fiat 500 or Miata are equipped to tow this thing.

Swapping the cj5 body onto the roxor frame. CJ5 body has the vin and you retain the newer roxor frame.

In some places just using a chassis and its vin number is enough. People play games with Discoveries here, replacing th
e
original chassis with an older L
and Rover one and thus making a Disco that’s old enough to qualify as a classic vehicle and be exempt from road tax.

I’ve been to Nepal and travelled on the most app alling roads using old Indian buses.

My state (PA) only gives you one plate.

I want one of those so bad...but the price of entry, not to mention my 1/8th acre postage-stamp lot, says otherwise.
I could drive from the front yard, around the house on the driveway, to the backyard though...as long as I was ‘that guy’ using up all the street parking.

Not being street legal kills it for me, but I’m not really the target audience for this thing. I rent a house and the largest car I own is a 2012 Fiat 500, so I can’t even tow this somewhere unless I bought another vehicle.

Roger that. I’m not either...I just think they’re cool. I could probably tow it with my Tacoma, but it would take a while.

Well I think that they’re marketing it as a fun off-roader, so the comparison to that Chevy Truck isn’t as relevant as the comparison to that Jeep. But comparing the Roxor to that 2013 Jeep is like comparing the original CJ Jeep to that 2013 Jeep, except it’s a brand new CJ. Jeeps get bigger and bulkier with every new model, but the Roxor is smaller and lighter.
I’m not buying one, but it was neat to see.
